Deep Field Concert App

An engaging companion app for an immersive concert experience.
Deep Field, written by Grammy award-winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre, was inspired by the world’s most famous space observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope, and its greatest discovery – the iconic Deep Field image. This app forms part of the live performance of Deep Field, and also provides additional information on the film. I led the redesign and relaunch of the concert app, making it more useful both in performance settings as well as a standalone app to learn about the Hubble telescope and this groundbreaking piece of music.

The end result was a sleeker app with a unified code platform, allowing for faster updates and much greater flexibility for new features. Music Productions can also manage app content via a Contentful CMS, which further reduces the need for app store updates.

A preliminary audit of the app's user experience and information architecture was conducted to get the project started. I collaborated with the Music Productions to determine what was working in the existing app, and what new features were desired. Once we had each use case worked out, wireframes were created for each screen needed.
